Photo Manipulation
Welcome to our photo manipulation tutorial. In this tutorial you will learn a simple way to take any old photograph and turn it into a professional looking piece of artwork that can be applied to signatures, splashes/wallpapers, desktops, and just about anything else you want to!
To start us off we are going to need to create a new document, I am going to be using 350×130 as my dimensions. Now for the tutorial…
1) Place your image into your document, I found my picture in Google image search by simply typing “waterfalls” Once you have it placed in your document (in this case a sig) resize it if you feel it is necessary, I resized mine just a little. Here is the image I am going to use for this tutorial (scaled down to fit screen)
2) Now make a copy of the original picture by pressing Ctrl + J and now go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and use any settings you want, here are mine.
Now simply change the layer style to Lighten
3) Again copy the original picture and move it to the top of your layers palette. Now go to Filter>Artistic>Cutout and play around with the settings. Here are mine.
and now change the layer style to Overlay
Here is what my signature looks like so far.
4) Copy the original photo and move it to the top of the layers palette and change the layer style to Soft Light and it looks like this:
